Classifying sources can help a reader judge what an AI answer relies on. This is an editorial review framework, not a description of an engine’s internal retrieval or ranking rules.
Company-owned information
A company’s product pages and announcements establish what it says it offers. They can be authoritative for the company’s own statements without independently proving comparative superiority.
Independent coverage
Reporting, reviews, and research may add a separate perspective. Check the original source, its evidence, date, and relationship to the company. Multiple copies of a press release do not create independent corroboration.
Channel and partner information
A directory, partner page, or marketplace listing can help establish availability or a commercial relationship. Consider what the listing actually demonstrates and whether it is current.
Commentary and conversation
Practitioner posts and social discussion can reveal useful questions and experiences. They may also include opinion, promotion, or incomplete information. Follow important factual claims to supporting evidence.
Judge the source in context
These categories help organize a review, but they do not establish universal weights for Grok or any other engine. In a Market Map discussion, ask whether the source concerns the right company, market, and buyer need, and state the limits of the conclusion.
