AI search helps people explore questions through generated answers. For a marketing team, a useful read asks not only whether a company appears, but which market and buyer need the answer describes.
An answer can combine several kinds of information
AI products can answer from existing model knowledge, retrieved web information, or material supplied by the user. Which sources are available depends on the product and how the question is asked. Do not assume every answer used web search.
A brand appearance needs context
Being mentioned does not necessarily mean being recommended. Check what the answer says about the company, which alternatives it names, and whether that comparison matches the buyer need.
Start with the relevant market
The same company may compete in several markets with different rivals. A Market Map organizes those contexts before you examine standing. Geography and specialization can change the comparison.
Keep Recall and Web distinct
Recall describes an answer without web search. A Web read includes search and may provide cited sources to inspect. Compare them within the same market and keep the model and date attached. A difference is an observation to investigate, not proof that one source caused it.
Use the read alongside other research
AI standing can inform a client review, but it is not a substitute for customer interviews, commercial records, or judgment. Explain what the evidence supports and leave uncertainty visible.
