A Position Shift is a meaningful change in a company’s position relative to rivals in a particular market. New coverage or a launch is context to examine, not automatic proof of a shift.
Start with what changed
A product launch, customer announcement, review, or competitor development can give a team a reason to revisit its market view. First establish what happened and which company the evidence concerns.
Ask whether it matters in this market
A development can be important in one market and irrelevant in another. Look at the buyer need and the rivals on the selected Market Map board. The question is whether the development changes a comparison those buyers would actually make.
Keep the source attached
A headline alone is rarely enough. Read the source, check its date, and separate a company’s claim from independent evidence. If the material does not support a conclusion about standing, keep the conclusion open.
Use a fresh measurement when needed
Your existing measurement describes its recorded context. When you need an updated view, remeasure the relevant market. A new article appearing and standing changing are different observations; neither proves that one caused the other.
